Volunteer/Internship Opportunities:
CAIR-MN functions with the support of dedicated volunteers and interns. There are volunteer/internship opportunities available in our St. Paul office (between the hours of 9am and 5pm), as well as at-home opportunities
Internships are available for summer, spring and fall semester, and year-long terms. Most internships are unpaid and some project based internships may come with a stipend.
Volunteer opportunities are more flexible and are available year-round.

APPLICATION GUIDELINES: Complete volunteer/internship application and background check consent form and submit with your resume. Applicants may be contacted to schedule an interview and, if selected for an internship/volunteer position, will be asked to attend training.
NOTE: All volunteers/interns must fill out a confidentiality and non-disclosure agreement.

SHARE THE QU’RAN PROJECT COORDINATOR (1 OR 2 POSITIONS AVALIABLE):
After President Obama's speech in Cairo in June 2009, CAIR-National launched a campaign to distribute 100,000 English-Arabic Qur’ans to every elected official in America. To date, all members of Congress, except two, have received a copy of the Quran. Now educators and others are receiving free copies of the Quran.
God willing, CAIR-MN will launch the Share the Qur’an campaign locally this summer. CAIR-MN plans to gather sponsors for Qur’ans during Friday prayer and other events. The intern will coordinate with area mosques to present the Share the Qur’an campaign, host an informational table after Friday prayer where individuals can sign up to sponsor a Qur’an, arrange khutbah (sermon) topics related to the campaign, and engage in other activities to promote the campaign. Essential duties and responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned): • Identify masjids (mosques) and contact leaders to present the campaign, arrange informational tables, arrange khutbah (sermon) topics, and discuss other activities to promote the Share the Qur’an campaign • Must be available every Friday from May 28 to July 6 to organize and staff informational table, but masjids are negotiable. • Keep proper records of Qur’an sponsorships and funds collected. • Work with CAIR-National on maintaining shipment records.
Qualifications: • Self driven and ability to multitask • Organizes and demonstrate the ability to follow through • Excellent written and oral communication skills and a commitment to serving the community • Outgoing and able to communicate with a variety of people • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and the ability to learn internet applications to document, organize, and perform work assignments.
Note: This is a PAID internship.
CIVIL RIGHTS/NON-PROFIT MANAGEMENT INTERN (1 POSITION AVALIABLE):
Our Civil Rights Department handles cases that range from prejudiced comments to hate and bias crimes. Our clients are Muslims as well as non-Muslims who have had Islam imputed upon them. Intern will work closely with the Assistant Civil Rights Director on resolving cases of discrimination reported to CAIR-Minnesota. Intern will also assist in day-to-day management of non-profit organization.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned): • Available 15-20 hours a week to be in CAIR-MN office • Assist in documenting incidents of religious discrimination by counseling and interviewing complainants regarding the incidents. • Update databases containing information about cases reported to CAIR-Minnesota. • Organize “Know Your Rights” trainings for mosques and local area community centers. • Assist in establishing meetings with community leaders, elected officials and other key influencers. • Assist in planning and preparation of CAIR-MN events. • Provide assistance with a variety of daily and periodical tasks including maintaining appropriate files and databases
Qualifications: • Organized and demonstrate the ability to follow through the various on-going and newly assigned tasks • Self starter and ability to multitask • Excellent written and oral communication skills and a commitment to serving the community • Proficient with internet research • Experience with general administrative support a plus • Outgoing and able to communicate with a variety of individuals • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and the ability to learn internet applications to document, organize, and perform work assignments.
ST. CLOUD STUDENT INTERVIEWER (UP TO 8 POSITIONS AVALIABLE):
CAIR-MN is working on pervasive discrimination complaints from high school students in the St. Cloud Area School District. CAIR-MN will be conducting individual and group interviews with a number of students. Interns will be grouped into teams of two and trained on interview techniques. Interns will prioritize meeting with current high school seniors to document their experiences over the four years they have attended St. Cloud high schools.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned): • Available to conduct in-person interviews with students in St. Cloud. • Assist in documenting incidents of religious discrimination by counseling and interviewing complainants regarding their incidents. • Maintain notes and files on all interviews conducted.
Qualifications: • Organized and demonstrate the ability to work as a team. • Excellent written and oral communication skills and a commitment to serving the community. • Ability to travel to St. Cloud • Somali language proficiency a plus • Outgoing and able to communicate with a variety of individuals. • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and the ability to learn internet applications to document, organize, and perform work assignments.
