As a civil rights organization that advocates for Muslims and other racial & religious minorities, CAIR-MN provides practical opportunities to youth in our community. The Muslim Youth Leadership Program focuses on leadership development & technical capacity building. Four key activities comprise MYLP:

The Muslim Youth Leadership Symposium (MYLS) is an annual leadership and empowerment conference filled with engaging workshops, activities, and projects. MYLS was founded to build new foundations for students to become involved in community and public service in Minnesota. It seeks to provide students with the tools and resources they need to achieve their potential, as well as motivate them to pursue careers that will impact the broader society. MYLP is a grassroots, youth-led initiative; it offers continued leadership training, seminars, mentorship, and networking opportunities throughout the year.

At the annual mock legislature, students serve as legislators debating public policy issues and preparing mock bills to be presented in the House Chambers of the Minnesota State Capitol. The program provides students with public policy skills and the tools to understand the legislative process.
Through Mock Legislature, students learn:
• Speaking and presenting skills
• How to research bills and policies
• Debate skills; how to take a stance and articulate their point of view

MYLP’s goal is to provide internships in disciplines such as marketing, finance, civil rights, and non-profit management. These internships provide hands-on experience to students that will help build their career paths. We must invest in the talents of our community by developing volunteer and internship programs to cultivate human capital and to bring sustainable, long-lasting solutions to the challenges our community is facing from within.  CAIR-MN offers internships throughout the year. By offering internships and law clerkships, we increase opportunities for youth to gain hands-on experience and skills in a non-profit organization, civil rights work, legal research, marketing, and other areas.
